WordPress is an open source project, which means there are hundreds of people all over the globe working on it.

WordPress was born out of a desire for an elegant, well-built personal publishing system built on PHP and MySQL and licensed under the GPL. It is the official successor of b2/cafelog. WordPress is thought to be a fresh software, but its roots and development go back to 2001.

Although WordPress started as just a blogging system, today it is used as a complete content management system featuring thousands of plugins, widgets, and themes.

It is mentioned that WordPress is the most popular blog software used today.
